Disney World Reveals New Christmas Ride Overlay for Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster!

The newly-reimagined Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets at Hollywood Studios is getting its first ride overlay for Christmas 2026! Walt Disney World has revealed the track list for the obligatory holiday edition, and we have a full rundown of that plus our take on the seasonal setlist, how it compares to the normal playlist and other Christmas attractions.

As basic background, Christmas at Walt Disney World runs from November 13, 2026 through January 6, 2027. Although these are the official start and end date, we’d caution that these are not “hard” dates for when the event will launch and wrap up. There are several exceptions, as covered more comprehensively in our Ultimate Guide to Christmas 2026 at Walt Disney World.

One such exception is over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where the Jollywood Nights Christmas Party holds its first event of the season on November 7, 2026. Consequently, a lot of what’s offered at DHS by that first Saturday of November. Now, that will include Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay. Here are full details via Walt Disney World.

From November 4, 2026 through January 6, 2026, the Electric Mayhem is putting its own spin on the season with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay, a limited-time experience turning their already legendary concert into a festive celebration filled with seasonal tunes and new surprises.

The celebration begins before you even step inside G-Force Records. Festive music fills the courtyard surrounding the attraction’s iconic guitar marquee, setting the stage for a Christmas concert that only The Electric Mayhem could deliver.

New Christmas Magic Backstage

Once inside G-Force Records, you’ll find Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd, Janice, Zoot, and Lips deep in rehearsals for their holiday spectacular. While the band puts the finishing touches on its seasonal set list, a few familiar Muppets friends stop by the studio to offer a helping hand…or at least try to.

As the countdown to showtime continues, the Electric Mayhem Band’s holiday preparations don’t exactly go according to plan. But that’s all part of the fun when your headliners are known more for rocking out than sticking to a schedule.

You’ll be immersed in the story with the first-ever Audio-Animatronics figure of Scooter, brought to life using motion-capture technology of Scooter the Muppet. By recording and tracking Scooter’s performance, Walt Disney Imagineering was able to build and program a figure that looks, moves, and emotes exactly like Scooter should, right down to the small details.

Joined by the finest penguin audio engineers, Scooter is doing his best to convince The Electric Mayhem to stop jamming and get to their increasingly restless fans. But will it be enough to get the band across town and on stage in time?

Thanks to the newest technological advancements from Muppet Labs, we’ll board a super-powered vehicle in the alleyway just behind Studio C known as the Lengthy Immediate Motion Object (L.I.M.O.)!

Song Setlist for Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster: Obligatory Holiday Overlay

For this seasonal celebration, The Electric Mayhem is bringing four new holiday-inspired tracks to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, including collaborations with a few special guests.

Each song unwraps its own mix of holiday cheer, high-energy riffs, and rock star attitude, creating a concert-style experience like no other. So deck the halls and get ready to rock around the coaster track with The Electric Mayhem.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay Songs:

  • Holiday Road – The Electric Mayhem ft. Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear
  • Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) – The Electric Mayhem ft. Jennifer Hudson
  • Silver Bells – The Electric Mayhem ft. Cyndi Lauper
  • Little Saint Nick – The Electric Mayhem

Here’s a teaser video that Disney shared on social media:

Of the trio, Holiday Road sounds the most intriguing to me. Both because it’s an all-Muppets rendition, and because it most easily comes to mind as a song suitable for a high-octane roller coaster. I’m honestly having a more difficult time imagining how “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” and “Silver Bells” translate to a thrill ride. Hopefully that’s just a me problem. The existing playlist on the attraction is mostly great, and I have a couple of unexpected favorites, so I assume this will likewise surprise.

Perhaps I’m just a little disappointed that there’s no representation from The Muppet Christmas Carol, which is one of my favorite movies of all-time (not just Christmas movies, but period). I’m not sure how those would’ve translated to a thrill ride, but I still would’ve loved to hear “Scrooge,” “One More Sleep ‘Til Christmas” or “It Feels Like Christmas” aboard a roller coaster! Here’s hoping there’s ample representation of The Muppet Christmas Carol in the queue…and the gift shop!

Clearly a lot of care and consideration were put into the reimagining, so I doubt slower songs were just chosen haphazardly. It seems appropriate to give the benefit of the doubt here and assume the remixes for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay will work well on the ride!

What Is & Isn’t Changing for Christmas 2026 on Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

At the risk of stating the obvious, the roller coaster track and layout are going to be unchanged in Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay, just as those features are no different from the Aerosmith to standard Muppets edition. The ride still features a 0 to 57 MPH launch and everything that defines the most intense roller coaster at Walt Disney World.

We would likewise expect everything that exists in the physical world to be unchanged. In the announcement, Walt Disney World specifically mentioned the Scooter and penguin Audio Animatronics. They’ll still be there, as will anything that is practical.

Props could be added or decorations will adorn them, but we wouldn’t expect anything to be removed from the regular ride queue or pre-show for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay.

My hope is that there’s a lot from The Muppet Christmas Carol added to the queue, load area, and launch. I’ve been to several D23 and Walt Disney Archives events that have featured props from The Muppet Christmas Carol, so I know there’s a lot that Disney has on hand. It’s just a question of whether Imagineering will be allowed to use on an attraction at Walt Disney World, and how much can be installed overnight. Fingers crossed!

Walt Disney World does seem to be suggesting that the pre-show will differ for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay, however. Note the following lines from the press release: “While the band puts the finishing touches on its seasonal set list, a few familiar Muppets friends stop by the studio to offer a helping hand…” and “…the band’s holiday preparations don’t exactly go according to plan.” (Emphasis added.)

It’s entirely possible that Walt Disney World is taking some liberties with the announcement, trying to puff it up a little bit. If only one of the above lines were present, I might be inclined to believe that. Two seems more deliberate, pointing at this being more than just on-ride audio that’s swapped out.

My best guess is that the pre-recorded segments in the pre-show have been swapped out for new ones, including Rizzo the Rat and Gonzo the Great as Charles Dickens (Disney’s press release also includes a photo of the duo). Maybe Scooter’s dialogue has also been changed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the new footage can just be slotted in without any changes to the existing pre-show.

Taking this guess a step further, my strong suspicion is that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay was recorded at the same time that the rest of the ride reimagining was created, and it was built for this from the beginning.

For one thing, it’s only a few months later and that would’ve been the cost-effective approach. It’s also easiest for Imagineering to get the budget for this type of project when it’s already priced-into something bigger, almost allowing them to “Trojan Horse” in a few fun things that Walt Disney World otherwise would be unwilling to fund. (Although the times are changing on that, so perhaps not.)

For another thing, Disney previously teased additional songs back around when Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets debuted. Many fans at the time assumed that meant the post-show or exit area, but we were led to believe something else was coming during previews of the reimagined ride. It now seems very clear that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay was what was being teased.

Cosmic Rewind Comparison Continues at Christmas

Our original review of the reimagined ride was titled Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Pulls Off a Reverse Cosmic Rewind & Is Better Than It Had Any Right to Be. That spend a lot of time drawing comparisons to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and Mission Breakout at Disney California Adventure.

As it turns out, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets has a lot in common with both. While not perfect, the reimagined ride belongs in the same conversation as those Guardians of the Galaxy attractions, which should speak volumes about this reimagining given the guest reception to the Marvel hero-helmed attractions.

It now has another commonality, in that both Guardians of the Galaxy rides received holiday overlays. Cosmic Rewind had the Holiday Remix for its first Christmas, which was so bad that it was quietly discontinued after only a single season. Meanwhile, Monsters After Dark has become a cult classic out at DCA.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay now joins those Guardians of the Galaxy attractions, but will likely be distinct from both. Hopefully it’s significantly better than the Cosmic Rewind Holiday Remix, and it’s unlikely to have the campy quality of Monsters After Dark. My assumption is that it’ll have the same sentimental quality and charm of the Muppet Christmas Carol.

What follows is basic background about the ‘vanilla’ Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets, for those who have yet to experience the still-new ride reimagining, including our take on the current playlist.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster On-Ride Playlist

While riding Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, the music takes center stage. The Electric Mayhem teamed up with some of rock’s biggest names for the playlist. One of these 5 songs plays randomly on each ride:

  • Song 2 – The Electric Mayhem
  • Born To Be Wild – The Electric Mayhem ft. Camilla the Chicken
  • Love Rollercoaster – The Electric Mayhem ft. Jennifer Hudson & Questlove
  • Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) – The Electric Mayhem ft. Def Leppard
  • Walking on Sunshine – The Electric Mayhem ft. Kelly Clarkson

Unlike Cosmic Rewind, where the clear consensus is that “September” is the best song, my polling of other guests revealed no such clear favorite here. If there is one, it’s probably “Song 2.” But there definitely isn’t an obvious best or worst song on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets.

I’ve heard all of the songs at least once, including “Walking on Sunshine” six times, “Born to Be Wild” and “Love Roller Coaster” four times each. I’ve heard those so many times because I didn’t get “Song 2” to complete my collection until my most recent ride. In other news, I now have CTE.

I enjoyed my first time hearing each of these songs, and look forward to doing future “research” to see which I prefer over the course of an average visit that does not involve several consecutive ride-throughs of hearing “Walking on Sunshine.” Doing the ride only once or twice in a day is representative of how the average guest will experience Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets.

What I can say now is that the music doesn’t work as well on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets as it does on Cosmic Rewind. This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise since that was a new build, and the Omnicoaster ride platform is tailor-made to ‘dance’ with music.

I was nevertheless expecting something slightly more from RnRC since Mission Breakout does really well moving with the music, but there’s also the critical distinction there that the ride profile was reprogrammed for the music. That couldn’t happen with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

The music on RnRC is still an asset, and fun feature. It just isn’t on the level of Cosmic Rewind or Mission Breakout, but that’s a high bar that no other rides meet. It would’ve been nice if the on-board audio system was upgraded, or even just made louder. (Rare for anything at Disney to be too quiet.)

On the plus side, these songs are more fun than the Aerosmith soundtrack, and the randomized element plus the prospect of bonus tracks adds to the re-rideability. Just don’t go in expecting Cosmic Rewind from the ride. The after the fact music doesn’t work as well with the cadence of the ride. It doesn’t “dance.”

Ultimately, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets offers something for everyone. It has quintessential Muppets humor that demonstrates again that Imagineering “gets” their brand of humor. But it’s not just for Muppets fans.

It has Easter Eggs, visual gags, references and tributes galore. It has celebrity cameos. It has a wide range of humor. If you are someone who enjoys having fun, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is for you. If you do not, well perhaps Walt Disney World isn’t for you.

The ride reimagining itself turned out better than expected, aided tremendously by the hardcore Muppets fans in Walt Disney Imagineering who “get” the characters’ unique brand of humor. They fought for this project in the first place and worked tirelessly to ensure the reimagining is well-done, reusing elements from MuppetVision that would otherwise be discarded, and somehow made this something special.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is clearly a love letter from Imagineering to Jim Henson and the Muppets, and they did superlative work here. Here’s hoping that the same is true of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay, and this becomes the veritable Muppet Christmas Carol Courtyard.

Perhaps I’m getting my hopes up too much, but I am incredibly optimistic about this overlay, both outside and inside the attraction. It has the potential to add a lot of festive fun to the courtyard, and if Imagineering is able to have fun with it and really lean into The Muppet Christmas Carol, it has the potential to be a highlight of the holiday season at Walt Disney World. Bring back the Muppet Christmas Caroling Coach and we’ll really be in business!

  1. maybe we will get cheeses for meeces in the queue!!

when i was there for jollywood nights last year we literally made a special stop in one man’s dream for the muppets christmas carol display. one of the most faithful adaptations of the source material, too.

  2. I haven’t heard any of the “original” Muppet overlay songs, so I’m conflicted on hearing the Holiday songs first. But at the end of the day, I don’t really have strong feelings either way. Just happy to have the Muppets on the ride.

  3. I love this news, and partly because it feels organically “right” — Henson/Muppets have been involved in so many Christmas-y projects from Emmet Otter to Muppet Christmas Carol, etc.

As a parent though, the best underrated and under-appreciated Muppet xmas offering is the album “John Denver & The Muppets: A Christmas Together”, which we played over and over again on our car CD player during holiday drives and road trips to visit family during the holidays — Little Saint Nick is on that album, though not sure if that’s the version we’ll hear on RnRC. Putting that CD on was guaranteed to calm the kids down, and they would often fall asleep in their car seats while listening, giving us some peace. (John Denver’s Greatest Hits is also amazing kids’ road trip music!)

Piggy pudding for the win! (IYKYK)

  4. For any slowish songs I assume they’ll just pick up the tempo. Although, I was just muttering to myself that there is a rock cover of “It Feels Like Christmas” by Fall Out Boy, that I heard IN A DISNEY PARK last year, and the band’s YouTube account just posted for the first time *yesterday* so…. perhaps there are surprises afoot?
